Cleopatra, the infamous Queen of Egypt, was known for a long list of things, from her scandalous love affairs and remarkable intelligence to her exceptional beauty and her innovative beauty routines. Cleopatra often took, and swore by, milk baths. A milk bath is a bath made of milk as opposed to water. Milk is great for the skin, particularly because the lactic acid found in milk is a gentle form of alpha-hydroxy-acid. This type of acid, often found in high-end skin care products, dissolves proteins to exfoliate the skin, dissolving dead skin cells and revealing fresh, younger looking skin underneath. It also happens that milk baths are quite beautiful to look at! Cleopatra’s luxurious baths also often included things like honey, lavender, rose water, flower petals or other beautifully scented additives.
It just so happens that these indulgent baths are also quite beautiful! They are exceptionally lovely to look at and are also very unique! For those who want to add implied nude photos to their shoot (you are nude but posed so no “bits” are showing), milk baths are the perfect way to cover without being limited by posing or “hand bras” for modesty. The milky, translucent water gives you as much or as little coverage as you’d like. Extra milk is added for opaque water with more conservative coverage. For a little more risqué shoot, less milk is added for more translucent coverage. Milk baths are a truly unique, creative addition to your boudoir shoot at our Connecticut boudoir photography studio.
Our boudoir studio, located in Preston, CT, has a gorgeous, oversize clawfoot soaking tub with a deep, angled back. This tub is perfect for milk baths, even for the taller-than-average girls among us. Angela, our gorgeous client featured here, is almost 6′ tall and, as you can see, she fit beautifully! The color palette is also entirely customizable, as are the flower choices. I loved these vibrant, saturated tones with her copper hair! We can incorporate your favorite flowers (dependent on seasonal availability in some cases) as well as your favorite colors! Milk options include goat’s milk and cow’s milk and we can also incorporate essential oils or honey for a truly luxurious experience!
For our brides, the flowers can be matched to your wedding colors OR the whole tub can be filled with white lilacs or other white flowers. I also recommend purchasing an inexpensive veil (or borrowing one of ours) as veils are GORGEOUS in this bath set!
